Former CEO of NYC’s Elmhurst Dairy shifts company to produce “Milked”—a new line of cashew, walnut, almond, and hazelnut plant-based milks.
Vegan milk line Elmhurst Milked launched last week at trade show Natural Foods Expo West in Anaheim, CA. The line—which is comprised of four nut-based flavors including cashew, walnut, almond, and hazelnut—was developed by Henry Schwartz, who previously operated family-owned dairy plant Elmhurst Dairy. The 80-year-old dairy company—the last of its kind within New York City limits—shuttered last year, and according to Schwartz was operating “long past the years that it was economically viable.” With the help of award-winning culinary innovator Cheryl Mitchell, Ph.D., Schwartz now applies his knowledge about the process of dairy-making to create creamy plant-based milks that use four times more nuts per serving in their formulation than competing brands. “Recently, Elmhurst has made a major shift to lead the plant-based revolution,” the company’s new site states. “Now simply called ‘Elmhurst,’ its minimally processed nutmilks are just as nutritious and pure as its famous conventional milk.”
