David Carter speaks to college students about the benefits of plant-based eating.
Former NFL defensive lineman and self-proclaimed “300 Pound Vegan” David Carter recently spoke at Pennsylvania State University’s Vegetarian Club to discuss his journey to veganism. The free-agent footballer spoke to students about how the popular film Forks Over Knives inspired him to take up a plant-based diet, which helped to heal a series of “old-man” diseases he contracted in his mid-20s. “That documentary changed my life,” he said. “I learned that milk, which I always thought would make me stronger, was actually causing my tendonitis.” Carter said switching to plant proteins not only cured his tendonitis and arthritis, but helped him get better sleep and improved his stamina. These healing properties and Carter’s ability to sustain a muscular, healthy physique on a vegan diet inspired Penn State students, one of whom said Carter helped clear any skepticism about veganism she had previously held.
