Earlier this week PETA made it clear they were not happy with the event Live Earth for serving meat at its festival and now Morrissey is jumping in to support the protests.
The vegan rock star who doesn’t even speak to meat eaters penned a letter to Al Gore, one of the organizers of the concert series aimed at raising awareness on the issue of climate change, in which he explains why only vegan food should be served.
“Serving meat and dairy products at an event to combat climate change is like selling pistols at a gun-control rally,” he writes.”We already know that raising animals for food is a leading cause of climate change and that moving toward a vegan diet is necessary to combat climate change’s worst effects. Animal agriculture severely affects the world’s freshwater supply and is a major contributor to global greenhouse-gas emissions, deforestation, loss of biodiversity and air and water pollution, among many other harmful effects.”
Morrissey also points out how serving meat at Live Earth would be a form of “greenwashing” and that “if you choose to serve animal flesh at Live Earth, you’ll be making a mockery of the very concept of the event, in which case it should be renamed ‘Dead Earth: We Contributed!’.”
There’s no word yet on how effective his letter will be this time, specially since he is not scheduled to be one of 100 performers taking the stage on June 18th.
