The story of an abused cat dubbed Bruce Almighty has prompted hundreds of people around the world to donate more than $19,000 for his recovery.
The black-and-white cat was discovered on March 18 in Regina, Canada, with electrical tape wrapped tightly around his four legs, causing severe injury and infection.
A GoFundMe campaign was immediately set up to help care for the feline, who’s estimated to be between two and three years old.
Within five days, generous animal lovers have donated a staggering $19,700 — and counting — to little Bruce Almighty (a nickname earned for his “fierce determination”).
The initial goal was to raise $5,000. The organization is blown away by the generous support they’ve received, and has stated that all the money over its goal will go to the other animals at the shelter.
The Regina Humane Society says that Bruce has undergone surgery to remove eight of his front toes earlier this week, and may have to have one of his legs amputated.
“The pain and suffering he has endured is unimaginable,” said senior RHS Animal Protection Officer B. Lerat. “He is fortunate that a caring member of the public alerted us to his whereabouts. The public really is our eyes and ears when it comes to reporting cases of neglect and abuse involving animals.”
Until Bruce is fully recovered and is given the green light for his adoption, well wishes from all over the globe for his recovery is enough to believe that a lot of good does exist in this world.
Get better soon, Bruce!
