Are you or a friend looking to adopt a rescue dog? Or are you simply interested in hearing the tales of some really cute rescue puppies? Or do you really just want to see a bunch of awesome celebrities (such as two-time Oscar winner and the event’s host, Hilary Swank) play with some pampered pooches?
Well, look no further than The Great American Dog-a-Thon, a FOX special that will celebrate the lives of rescue dogs and even give viewers the opportunity to adopt or foster them! This two-hour event will air on Thanksgiving evening, and will include music, viral videos, and dog-themed awards. Viewers will be given information throughout the special about adoptable dogs in their local areas, and they will also be given the opportunity to donate to help raise funds for multiple animal rescue organizations.
The reason this special was brought to the attention of FOX is that, when a family searches for a potential pet, they tend to look in the wrong place – pet stores. While pet stores do provide an adorable selection of puppies, there are millions of other dogs left to await a loving home from behind kennel cages. Out of the six to eight million perfectly lovable pets abandoned in animal shelters, three to four million of those are euthanized annually.
Upon becoming the host for the Dog-a-Thon, Swank said, “We are so fortunate to have an animal advocate in the Fox network that not only sees the need for more awareness surrounding this issue, but is willing to set aside a two-hour block for this important cause. This partnership will change the path of a soul for thousands of animals looking for their forever home.”
Throughout the special, several other celebrities will make appearances alongside Swank, a few being Scarlett Johansson, Josh Duhamel, Miranda Lambert, Kristen Bell, Fergie, and Betty White.
If you want to start a new Thanksgiving tradition (or if you are thinking about welcoming a new loving face into the family), then tune in to FOX on Thanksgiving night!
